Just so we’re clear: We now live in a world where a gossip-tinged slapfest between a losing golfer and his former caddie is now a bigger story than who actually won the damn golf tournament.

Congratulations, Adam Scott. No one cares, but unlike Tiger and Stevie, you actually accomplished something.

Here it is.

Tiger has tweeted his return. The formerly great one will play next week at the Bridgestone Invitational. Thus ends the 11-week haitus Tiger self-imposed to heal his beleaguered left leg.

What we should all keep in mind is that there are multiple layers to this:

Tiger Woods has announced today that he will not participate in this year’s British Open. On his website, the three-time Open Champion says he will not play at Royal St. George’s next week to avoid risk of re-injuring his left leg.

Woods missed the U.S. Open last month due to the same leg injuries.

The third major of the season begins next week.

Any one else want to take odds on the 2-man race to the bottom of our collective public good graces between Tiger Woods and LeBron James?

Everyone who cares how they are perceived in the media – and this would include celebrity athletes who make a ton of money endorsing things – needs cut out the cute on Twitter. Stop trying to be funny or coy. Leave the media to the media professionals. Ahem.
