The man with messianic charisma and hunky bone structure has struck an impediment on his path to NFL stardom.

For the majority of this brief and savage NFL Training Camp 2011, Broncos starting QB Kyle Orton was widely believed to be headed out of Denver via a trade of some kind. This would have cleared a path – palm fronds and all – for Tim Tebow to inherit the Broncos starting QB job.

Now Orton has not been traded, and Tebow is frustrated. We all can and should sympathize. Surely you have been passed over for a promotion you thought you had earned.

Here’s the thing:

The Eagles defensive lineman who suffered a seizure at practice yesterday has a brain condition. Mike Patterson may need surgery.

The 28-year-old has been diagnosed with arteriovenous malformation (AVM), which is the tangling of blood vessels near the skull.

James Harrison made headlines and raised eyebrows when he spoke candidly and critically of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in the August issue of Men’s Journal. Highlights included Harrison using an anti-gay slur, and calling Goodell “stupid,” “the devil,” and a “crook.”

Stunningly (and by that, we mean not at all stunningly), Harrison is now backing away from these forehead-smackingly unhelpful quotes.

In a statement released via his Twitter and Facebook accounts, Harrison says he was quoted out of context.

One of the most bizarre prison terms in recorded history is over. Former NFL receiver Plaxico Burress is out of jail. You’ll recall Plaxico shot himself accidentally while illegally possessing a handgun in a New York City nightclub in 2009.

Plaxico Burress spent two years in jail because he accidentally shot himself. Think about it.

Donovan McNabb’s agent has responded to comments made by boxer Bernard Hopkins. Hopkins said earlier this week that McNabb isn’t authentically black.
