John Barry has died. He was 77. If you don’t know him, you know his music. He wrote the music for 12 James Bond films, including the franchise’s signature fuzz guitar theme.

Barry won Oscars for his work on the 1966 film “Born Free,” and for 1990′s “Dances With Wolves.”

The Wilpons own the New York Mets. They own 100% of the Mets.

Because of a recent lawsuit stemming from the Benie Madoff Ponzi scheme, the Wilpons may be on the hook for between $300 million and $1 billion.

25% of the Mets is now for sale. The New York Times wonders if that’s worth buying.

Adam Potter – this guy – fell off a mountain. The fall constituted a rapid descent of over 1,000 feet, including an initial tumble off a 300-foot cliff. Check the link for Gawker’s very helpful “How-To” guide for people who climb, and fall off of, mountains.

Potter is reportedly making plans to climb Mr. Everest in the coming months.

Steve Lavin is 12-8 so far in his first year as St. John’s head basketball coach. He’s already enjoyed two 5-game winning streaks.

You may know Lavin best from two of his previous gigs: He was a thoroughly entertaining analyst for ESPN from 2003-2010. Before that, he was the head coach at UCLA. The mere mention of Lavin in certain West Los Angeles neighborhoods can still trigger passionate rhetoric, and fierce debate.

According to Wikipedia, Steve Lavin is one of only two coaches in the country, along with Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski, to lead his team to five national quarterfinals (Sweet 16s) in six years in the NCAA tournament.
